A distant encounter, a close-up jewel
Sometimes a special piece of jewelry begins not at my work table, but on the other side of the screen. So too this time: the first appointment was via videocall. The lady was in Spain at the time, but wanted to have a piece of jewelry made in which a small amount of her deceased mother's ashes could be incorporated.
A conversation as if we were sitting at the table
During the video call, we talked just as we did at my speaking table: quietly, attentively and with room for ideas. I listened, looked, thought, and made some sketches as we discussed the possibilities together.
Hand-drawn design during videocall
From sketch to tangible design
Based on that conversation, I elaborated on the design and made an offer. I used a new technique: using AI I translated my hand-drawn design into an almost tangible impression of the jewelry. This gave the customer a clear picture of what the end result could look like, a beautiful combination of craftsmanship and modern technology.

AI impression of the jewelry in the quotation
The axis behind the diamond
The intention was to keep a small amount of her mother's ashes behind the diamond. To do that, I set the diamond in a closed case, with just a little more space than needed for the stone alone. In that small compartment rests a bit of ashes, hidden but present, and then the diamond was set on top of that. Only under a highly magnifying loupe is it visible, and that makes it extra intimate: a subtle, lasting connection.

The final ash jewelry
The magical moment of wearing
After some email contact and answering some questions, I was given the green light to begin. When she came to pick up the jewelry in person, it was a touching moment. She broke into tears as soon as she saw it ... and I must confess, I didn't quite keep it dry myself.
She put the jewelry on, and it "fell into place." That magical moment when a personal design is worn for the first time always remains special: it is the moment when the jewelry begins its own life.
Having a piece of jewelry made, from wedding rings to ash jewelry
Whether it's wedding rings, an ash jewelry or any other personal jewelry: I like to think with you. Feel free to contact me and ask about the possibilities. You are welcome for an introductory conversation or a design session, both in my store and workshop and online via video call.
