Delicate repairs: invisible repair with visible impact
Jewelry tells a story. Sometimes that story is generations old and other times it is just beginning. In either case, they deserve careful treatment. Some repairs require not only technical knowledge, but also insight, patience and a steady hand. This kind of precision work is exactly where my heart lies.
Take this gold slave bracelet. Once repaired by another goldsmith, but unfortunately with permanent play in the hinge. The clasp was running crooked and even a small crack had appeared. To prevent further damage, I carefully removed the old hinge and made a completely new one. Now it runs smoothly, closes perfectly, and the microscopic rivet is invisibly fixed and eliminated.
Another example is this bracelet made of jade, where the stones are connected with wafer-thin gold caps. One of the hinges had been torn out. Repairing it under the soldering flame was impossible: jade cannot withstand heating and the gold was too delicate, which burns quickly. Instead, I carefully detached the cap (carefully drilling out the latch) and laser-reinforced it by welding a gold plate against the top. Then I replaced the old, ultra-fine hinge. The result? A virtually invisible restoration, with no concessions to aesthetics or wearing comfort.
This kind of work requires absolute precision and knowledge of the materials I work with. The goal is not only a functional solution, but also the restoration of beauty, as if nothing ever happened.
