Commissioned jewelry: an ode to the regular customer
Every week I make jewelry on commission, often for people I have known for years. Loyal customers who keep coming back for a new piece of jewelry, a modification or a personal gift. I am grateful for that and proud of it.
Confidence grows with time
Designing and making a piece of jewelry is something personal. I consider it a great compliment that someone keeps coming back to me. Sometimes it is a ring with meaning, a pendant from old gold or a new design as a reminder of a special moment.
Often I already know a bit of what someone likes, how it will be worn, and what I need to take into account. That creates peace in the process and room for depth. And it makes the work even more valuable.
A piece of jewelry that suits you
Commissioned jewelry is not just jewelry. They are tailored to the person, to the story, to the life a person leads. Sometimes understated, sometimes outspoken but always made with attention.
Therefore, I take the time to observe someone closely. I ask questions about personality, lifestyle and sometimes hobbies or preferences. If the jewelry is intended for someone else, I sometimes ask for a photograph. That way I get a better idea of who I have in front of me and what really suits that person. I translate that impression into form, material and detail, so that the design fits the person as closely as possible.
Case in point: I made this necklace with watermelon tourmaline for a young woman who had just finished her medical studies. She didn't know exactly what she was looking for, but as soon as I spoke to her and heard her story, I thought of this special stone. It became love at first sight for her, too, and she has worn it proudly ever since.
Genuine and reliable
My work is artisanal, personal and reliable. No fast trends, no mass production. I believe in taking time, looking closely and making it beautiful. And that only works when there is trust from both sides.
So herewith: a sincere thank you to everyone who has managed to find their way to my studio for years. For the commissions, the trust, and the nice conversations in between.
