From staff to sparkle: how a classic alliance with diamonds comes to life
A simple ring. Sleek, classic, timeless. But those who know what's involved see something very different: hours of work, concentrated hands, and a process that begins at the very beginning.
This classic alliance ring in gold with diamonds does not just come out of a drawer or a mold. It is created step by step, in the atelier. Every detail carefully handcrafted.
Gold smelting, wire drawing
We start by melting 14 carat gold. In a small crucible the metal flows together into a glowing whole. Then I cast it into a rough rod – solid, solid, still without shape.
Then the shaping begins. I anneal the rod, I roll it and pull it with the crowbar into wire. Until a fine wire is created with exactly the right thickness. Not too wide, not too narrow.
Sawing, filing, drilling
Then the wire is bent into a circle, cut and soldered together. The ring is still rough - the shape is there, but the real work is just beginning now. Each facet is filed by hand. The top straight, the sides smooth. Small slots are drilled where the diamonds will later be placed.
It is precise work. A tenth of a millimeter difference, and a stone lies crooked. Everything has to be right.
Setting diamonds with a steady hand
Then the setting. One by one, the diamonds are placed, in a row of equal brilliance. With a fine setting rod, the edges of the gold are pressed over the stone. Firmly, but with caution - it should be firm, but not break.
Then the finishing begins. Sanding, polishing, checking. Just until the gold shines, but not shines. The ring should not scream, but speak.
