Having jewelry made via video call

Video calling for a new piece of jewelry

This past week I had a special experience: for the first time I did a design session with a new client via video call. The contact started very simply by email. After an initial introduction, I suggested we schedule a video call. We both thought that was a good idea, because that way we could speak to each other directly and I could show her my way of working.

A peek into my workshop

During the video call, she was in Spain and I was in my store and workshop. I let her look around via camera so she could see where her future jewelry would be created. Based on her wishes and stories, I immediately started making the first sketches. From those sketches, together we chose the biggest contender, the design that appealed to her the most.

Building trust

What I found extraordinary was how quickly trust was established. Despite the distance, the conversation felt personal and involved. At the end of the session, I suggested that we elaborate on the chosen design and make an offer. The very next day she had it in her mailbox.

Clear communication

She still had some questions about details, which I answered carefully and step by step. Just that clear communication gave her confidence in both the design and in me as a goldsmith. A few days later I received her agreement: I may start working for her to create her dream jewelry.

Old craft, new technology

To me, this experience beautifully illustrates how modern technologies like video calls can be combined with the centuries-old craft of goldsmithing. Distance doesn’t have to be an obstacle to designing a personalized and unique piece of jewelry together. It’s all about trust, craftsmanship, and good communication—and these days, that can be just as effective through a screen.

Having a piece of jewelry made, from wedding rings to ash jewelry

Whether it's wedding rings, an ash jewelry or any other personal jewelry: I like to think with you. Feel free to contact me and ask about the possibilities. You are welcome for an introductory conversation or a design session, both in my store and workshop and online via video call.
